For the past several months, President Biden and Democrats in Congress have been grasping at straws to find a way to force through their massive tax and entitlement spending legislation.  Although we still don’t know what may be included in the bill, we do know the framework President Biden announced this past week will result in higher taxes, greater inflation, and cradle to grave entitlement policies fundamentally changing the size and scope of the federal government. 

If you are a job creator, good luck finding anyone to work if this monstrosity passes.   We are already at record low employment equal to that of the early 1970s with a significant slowing of the economy – as shown by the anemic 2% growth this past quarter.  It’s all very predictable, however.  When you don’t have workers, you can’t grow the economy.  Add tax hikes to the outlook and job creators quit investing in new opportunities.

While Democrats have been fighting over how to achieve their massive big-government takeover, they have completely ignored the ongoing crisis facing families across the country.  Their partisan spending bill fails to address skyrocketing inflation, our broken supply chain, or the crisis at our southern border – just to name a few.  In fact, their package would make each crisis that much worse!   

Thankfully, the infighting among the Democrats in Washington has been strong enough to keep them well short of the votes they need to pass this massive tax and spend package.  For the sake of the country, House Republicans will continue fighting against it.

Demanding Answers on President Biden’s $450,000 Compensation to Illegal Immigrants

To further prove how out of touch the White House is with the actual priorities of the American people, the Biden Administration is reportedly looking to pay $450,000 to each illegal immigrant and up to $1 million per family who entered the United States unlawfully.  This is part of a proposed settlement of lawsuits brought against the federal government during the Trump Administration. 

Since his first day in office, President Biden has incentivized illegal immigration through a series of policy failures including halting construction of the border wall, reversing the Remain-in-Mexico policy, and rolling back former President Trump’s common sense border protections — all of which were working.   

As we witness the worst self-inflicted border crisis in history, this egregious abuse of taxpayer dollars is unconscionable and plain stupid.  This is also an insult to law-abiding citizens who work hard every day to provide for their families and pay their taxes.  I joined my friend and colleague Congressman Murphy in sending a letter to the Biden Administration demanding answers regarding this misguided policy and the consequences it would have on our border security.  You can read the letter here. 

COVID-19 Travel Update

Starting on November 8, non-citizen, non-immigrant air travelers to the United States will be required to be fully vaccinated and to provide proof of vaccination status prior to boarding an airplane to fly to the United States, with only limited exceptions.  Click herefor a full list of requirements and guidance.

For this week’s good news story, I would like to congratulate Robert Hobbs on his retirement and 40-plus year career at Sampson Regional Medical Center.  “In his 40-plus years, Hobbs has worked multiple positions throughout the hospital from an orderly to a nursing assistant, to the emergency room and in the operating room. He had a long path throughout Sampson Regional.”  Congratulations, Robert!  And thank you for your dedicated service to the hospital and the Sampson County community.
