Congressman David Rouzer (NC-07) released the following statement after the U.S. Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced support for ILM's terminal expansion project: "Travel and tourism are an important part of our local economy in Wilmington and across Southeastern North Carolina, supporting thousands of jobs in our community. I am pleased to see these resources invested at ILM to increase their capacity for tourists, business travelers, and locals who rely on having a safe and efficient travel experience." – Congressman David Rouzer. “The New Hanover County Airport Authority thanks Congressman Rouzer, our federal legislators, and partners at the FAA for this grant investment. With the receipt of this grant award, Wilmington International Airport (ILM) can complete our terminal expansion, adding new passenger boarding bridges, extending our commercial aircraft ramp, and enhancing our capacity to grow and serve our region’s air travelers.” – Donna Girardot, New Hanover County Airport Authority Chairman. Congressman Rouzer recently visited ILM airport to tour the new terminal expansion project. Background: ILM’s terminal expansion is comprised of three phases. Once complete, the ILM terminal will grow by 75%, expanding to 162,800 SF. The expansion will provide safety updates along with additional room for airline operations, passenger growth, and amenities. The FAA grant is administered through the Fiscal Year 2021 (FY21) Airport Improvement Program (AIP), which was funded in the FY21 annual appropriations package that was signed into law in December 2020.
