The ongoing global supply chain crisis is impacting our day-to-day life.  Whenever you arbitrarily shut down the economy you are going to have major supply chain disruptions.  The major labor shortage is making it that much worse.  Combined with inflation and increasing energy costs, American families are facing extreme uncertainty heading into this year’s Thanksgiving and Christmas Season.

Instead of prioritizing putting an end to the global supply chain crisis, some Democrats believe we should just “lower expectations.”  Welcome back to the 1970s when stagflation was king and President Carter proclaimed the country to be in a “malaise” caused by profound distress.  The American people deserve leadership that delivers solutions, not mischaracterizations.

That’s why my Republican colleagues and I are fighting for Congress to prioritize ending the global supply chain crisis instead of considering more than $1 trillion in additional cradle to grave entitlement spending and tax increases.  The natural result of these policies would lead to even higher inflation and a stagnant economy.  This week, I joined my colleagues in demanding President Biden step up, reevaluate his Administration’s priorities, and to work with Congress to end this supply chain crisis to prevent further economic damage.  You can read the letter here.

An Update on the Border Crisis

Washington Democrats’ massive reconciliation package would grant amnesty for more than 10 million illegal immigrants.  Even those convicted of 10 DUIs in this country would be allowed citizenship.  However, it provides no additional funding for border wall construction or for the Border Patrol agents who are overwhelmed by the record high number crossing the border daily.   

The Department of Homeland Security has warned officials to be prepared for the possibility of 350,000 to 400,000 more illegal border apprehensions in October.  This is on top of 1.7 million that have already crossed.  There are more than 400,000 who crossed that weren’t stopped or apprehended that we know about.  More than 11,000 pounds of fentanyl has been carried across the border.  To put that in perspective, 11k pounds is enough to kill every American 7 times over.  The cartels are making more than $1 billion a month — yes, more than $1 billion a month — just in human trafficking alone.  Open Borders is the most disastrous immigration policy ever put in place by any Presidential administration.

COVID-19 Information Update

COVID-19 vaccine booster shots are now available for more North Carolinians.  The FDA has authorized Moderna and Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 booster shots to help strengthen and extend protections against COVID-19 infections.  Click here for more information.

For this issue’s good news story, I would like to highlight a local community college stepping up to help with the supply chain crisis.  Cape Fear Community College (CFCC) has launched an expanded truck driving program to address the ongoing truck driver shortage.  According to the WWAY article, “The eight-week course gives students 74 hours in the classroom, 240 hours behind the wheel, and all but guarantees a job after graduating.”  Thank you to the educators at CFCC for stepping up to help ensure goods are transported safely and efficiently throughout the United States.
