The towns of Elizabethtown, Bladenboro and Clarkton in Bladen County have each set a curfew to begin at 8:30 in the evening until 6 a.m. for every day this week until June 8th.
As the nation slowly continues the reopening process, the CDC is continually updating its guidance for those that should take extra precautions – the elderly, or individuals with existing health conditions that make them more vulnerable. View the latest advice from the CDC here.
Johnston County has a new hotline number for COVID-19 resources. Effective today, the new number will be (919) 209-8310. The hours of operation for the hotline will remain the same: Monday – Friday from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Residents and community partners are encouraged to follow the county on its website www.johnstonnc.com as well as the following social media sites to receive updates.
New Hanover County Schools will be transitioning starting June 15 to an expanded version of the district’s summer food service program. Beginning on Monday, June 15, free breakfast and lunch for children 18 years and younger will be available for pick-up at nine school sites from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. All sites are drive-through or walk-up only and no enrollment is required. Recipients should be prepared to drive up or walk up to the designated area and let staff know how many meals are needed. Summer food service is available at the following schools:

Forest Hills Elementary School
Laney High School
Murray Middle School
Pine Valley Elementary School
Mary C. Williams Elementary School

For today’s good news story, I’m highlighting Erica Fester of Wilmington, who has been sewing homemade masks and giving them away to anyone who needs them. Other masks she’s made have been donated to small businesses for sale with 100% of the proceeds going directly to a domestic violence shelter. So far, Erica has raised almost $900 for the shelter and made more than 900 masks. Erica was brought to our attention by Patricia from Wilmington, a reader of this newsletter.
