Here's today's update:

• The U.S. Treasury and the Small Business Administration (SBA) reported last night that 13,669 loans totaling $4.3 billion have been originated under the Paycheck Protection Program that was officially launched yesterday.  This program was set up within 7 days of passage of the law, which is record time for any federal government program.  The self-employed and independent contractors will be eligible to apply starting next Friday, April 10.  You can get an application here.
  
  
• The CDC has issued updated guidance on the use of cloth coverings as face masks, available here.
  
  
• An important reminder from the North Carolina Department of Emergency Management: Local food banks need donations due to increased demand from #COVID-19.  Going to a food bank to give or get food is not a violation of the stay-at-home order.  If you're able to help out, click here to find a food bank today.
  
  
• The CDC has also issued updated guidance for health care providers and health professionals with patients suspected of having COVID-19. Click here for the most up-to-date information.
  
  
• The Small Business Administration has issued a useful frequently asked questions document for faith-based organizations interested in participating in the Paycheck Protection Program.
  
  
• Here's an update from the U.S. Postal Service on its efforts to continue operations during the outbreak and the steps it is taking to combat COVID-19.
  
  
• The N.C. Department of Health and Human Services has set up a helpful dashboard to track the outbreak across the state.

For today's good news story, I want to highlight Tracey Oates, owner of Elizabeth’s Garden and Gifts in Clinton, who is making protective masks and giving them away for free.  She collaborates with a husband and wife duo, Ray and Sylvia Hales. The Hales have collectively made around 75 masks for Elizabeth’s Garden and Gifts to give out to the community free of charge.  They're just a few of the countless North Carolina residents that are pitching in to help out in a time of crisis.
